KALA PUL, the Black Bridge is a feature film screenplay. It is a gritty tale of three days set in Karachi. The protagonist, ARSALAN is a fugitive who returns to Karachi after twelve years to investigate the violent death of his younger brother which has been blamed on the religious parties. The story revolves around his experiences with the social political and religious aspects of the city. In the story he discovers that his sisters has become a successful professional, his younger brother turned a fundamentalist Muslim and his best friend a textile mogul. He parties with the Karachi elites, is beaten up by the Police, kidnapped by religious fundamentalist and helped by the Christian minorities.
In a way, the movie is kaleidoscope on the various cultures of Karachi, described as one of the most violent cities of the world. The title, KALA PUL, is based on a bridge in the city which connects the affluent parts of the city to the lower income area. ARSALAN grew up under that bridge, so he has always been caught between the two worlds of haves and have nots.
